Targeted Lower Back

Pain Therapy –

Troedyrhiw, Merthyr Tydfil

Lower back pain can affect everything from lifting and walking to sleep, concentration and day-to-day comfort. Targeted Lower Back Pain Therapy is a focused 60-minute session designed to ease muscular tension, reduce discomfort and restore more natural, confident movement through the lumbar area.

This treatment combines IASTM (also known as muscle scraping), dry cupping, gentle mobilisations, and personalised aftercare. It is intended for people whose symptoms are centred in the lower back rather than the upper or mid-spine.

Sessions take place in Troedyrhiw, Merthyr Tydfil, in a calm, private setting where the focus is on understanding your symptoms properly and treating them in a considered, structured way.

Evidence-informed Approach

This treatment is informed by clinical research examining the combined use of Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation (IASTM) and dry cupping for non-specific lower back pain. In a controlled clinical study, participants with non-specific low back pain (NSLPB) who received a single session of combined IASTM and cupping experienced significant reductions in pain and disability, with improvements still present at one-week follow-up (Jain et al., 2022).

These findings help guide how the techniques are structured and applied within this session, alongside clinical reasoning and individual assessment, to support pain reduction and improved movement.

What the Session Involves

Consultation & assessment – 15 minutes

The session begins with a detailed consultation to understand what’s driving your lower back pain. This includes range of motion testing, postural analysis, and functional movement tests, alongside a discussion of lifestyle factors and symptom triggers. This ensures the treatment is specific to you rather than generic.

Warm-up through sports massage – 5 minutes

Gentle effleurage helps warm the tissues, improve circulation and prepare the lower back for deeper therapeutic work.

IASTM / muscle scraping – 15 minutes

Using specialist tools, we work into areas of restriction or tension to improve soft-tissue mobility and support smoother, more comfortable movement through the lumbar area.

Dry cupping – 20 minutes

Cupping is applied to one side of the lower back at a time to allow focused, controlled treatment. The side being worked on is treated with static cupping, while the opposite side is treated using gentle gliding cupping techniques to encourage circulation and reduce overall tension. During this phase, light mobilisations and movement-based stretching are included to maximise the benefit and support functional movement.

Reassessment & personalised aftercare – 5 minutes

Key movements are reassessed so you can feel the change, followed by tailored advice on stretches, movement strategies or self-care to help maintain the effects of the session.
